Remember He Loves You

Can I remind you how much God loves you?

I mean, take a look at this description of how He thinks about you:

“O LORD, you have searched me and known me!

You know when I sit down and when I rise up;

you discern my thoughts from afar.” (Psalm 139:1-2, ESV)

Does anyone else care so much about you that they notice every time you sit down and every time you stand up? Does anyone else know you well enough to be able to read your thoughts…before you think them?

“You search out my path and my lying down

and are acquainted with all my ways.

Even before a word is on my tongue,

behold, O LORD, you know it altogether.” (Psalm 139:3-4, ESV)

Can you see how God is practically tripping over Himself to be close to you no matter where you go? He reminds me of the father in the parable of the prodigal son. You know, the one who hiked his robes up to his thighs and ran disgracefully down the road to hug a rebel. One and the same. A father whose love for his children is embarrassing, especially considering his high position.

He doesn’t have to hang on every word you speak, because He hears it before you say it.

“You hem me in, behind and before,

and lay your hand upon me.” (Psalm 139:5, ESV)

This God – your God – is so close that He wraps you up like a sleeping bag. He’s right in front of you. He’s right behind you. And then He lays His hand on top of you.

It all makes for a terrifying picture if you are at odds with God, rebelling against Him or generally ignoring Him.

But it’s the epitome of security if you are in Christ.

Because you know that God sees you as you really are. He’s not fooled. He knows your failures, your sin. He’s not making excuses for you. He doesn’t love you because he’s a jolly old soul who can’t help but see the best in everyone.

No.

He loves you with a bloody, death-defeating love that will never wane when faced with your worst.

He loves you with a sky-ripping, mountain-moving, storm-stopping love that will never depend on your performance because He’s already given you His own perfection.

He knows everything about you because He wants to.

“Even the hairs of your head are all numbered.”

Why?

Because “You are of more value than many sparrows.”

“Fear not, therefore.” (see Matthew 10:30-31, ESV)

Your God loves you.

How have you experienced God's love recently?
